Apple to Launch a Bunch of New Devices Soon, Including iPhone 14

iPhone 14 (2022): Rumors, price, features, more

Apple's iPhone 14 is not far away, with the company expected to roll out its next flagship iPhone at a customary September event later this year. We've heard plenty of rumors and leaks about the upcoming iPhone, including a surprising design change for some models. Unfortunately, for those who don't like the 'Pro' iPhone models, it seems like not much is changing this year; here's everything we know so far about the iPhone 14. iPhone 14 Release date rumors and availability iPhone 14 is expected to debut in the usual September launch window just like iPhone 13. There have been reports of some supply struggles, with both the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Max models "a month behind schedule, but this is not expected to delay the device at all, although it could make the larger 'Max' versions of the iPhone harder to get hold off at launch. An educated guess would peg the iPhone 14 launch event for Tuesday, September 13, with pre-orders at the end of the week and a release date the following week. If that's too long to wait, then these Prime Day iPhone deals are a fantastic shout for getting a new phone at the best possible price. iPhone 14 Models and sizes The iPhone 13 mini is expected to be the last mini iPhone. Instead, this year Apple will reportedly ditch the diminutive iPhone in favor of a second regular max-sized iPhone. From July A source told Nikkei Asia that "it is pretty much decided that there won't be a Mini next year". As per previous reports, it is also claimed that Apple is planning to instead adopt a second 'Max' iPhone. The 6.7-inch phone would be a more cost-effective large iPhone with the same form factor as the iPhone 12 Pro Max but with fewer premium features. Ming-Chi Kuo also reported the iPhone 'mini' was on the way out even last year stating, "we predict that the new 2H22 iPhone will have 4 models, namely the high-end 6.7-inch and 6.1-inch models, and the lower-end 6.7-inch and 6.1-inch models." Leaked iPhone 14 schematics shared in April appear to reveal two larger iPhone 'Max' models that will be 6.7-inches in size, along with two 6.1-inch models.

None of the previously rumored changes to the flat back, volume buttons, or anything else seem to be present. The only small confirmed change is a new hole-punch camera to replace the current notch, the array features a pill-shaped hole and a small circular hole, like an exclamation mark on its side.

Apple iPhone 14 development delayed by weeks due to lockdowns in China

According to the latest Nikkei Asia report, Apple suppliers in China are behind track on development for one of its iPhone 14 series models due to ongoing COVID lockdowns across the country. Based on info from unnamed sources close to the matter, Apple has urged suppliers to speed up component development in a bid to stay on track with manufacturing schedules.

Foxconn, Pegatron and Luxshare Precision Industry are the three key suppliers for the upcoming iPhone models with the latter two companies suffering from the slow re-opening of factories in Shanghai. According to estimates, the lockdowns in China and disrupted production of upcoming iPhone models could end up costing Apple up to $8 billion in revenue.

Based on past iPhone development schedules, all new iPhones reach the engineering verification test (EVT) phase by June but the new report confirms at least one of the 14 series models is three weeks behind schedule. Apple’s aim is to have its mass scale iPhone 14 series production line set up by September but it remains to be seen if that will be the case this year.

Apple to Launch a Bunch of New Devices Soon, Including iPhone 14

Apple, a giant technology company, is reportedly gearing up to release a bunch of new devices including the iPhone 14 later this year and in 2023.

According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, this mass launch includes four iPhone 14 models, three Apple Watch variations, several Macs with M2 and M3 chips, the company’s first mixed-reality headset, low-end and high-end iPads, updated AirPods Pro earbuds, a fresh HomePod and an upgraded Apple TV.

Anticipated iPhone 14 features

Gurman speculates that the iPhone will have a revamped lock screen.

“The company has been working on this interface for a couple of years, and it makes sense to release it now because the lock screen works hand-in-hand with a new feature on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models: an always-on display,” Gurman says.

He says that iPhone 14 will also be able to show widgets displaying weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate, just like the Apple Watch.

Other features that will be on the iPhone 14 Pro include a much-improved front-facing camera, a new rear-camera system that includes a 48-megapixel sensor, thinner bezels, and a faster A16 chip, and a redesigned notch with a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID and a hole punch for the camera.

iPads featuring Stage Manager

Gurman also hints at a new low-end iPad with an A14 chip and 5G. He adds that the new iPad might have Stage Manager for users who want better multitasking capabilities.

“I expect Apple to release new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models with M2 chips later this year that work with Stage Manager. They’re code-named J617 and J620,” he says.

“That will let Apple say it has five different iPads that support the interface, versus three today (the current M1 iPad Pros and iPad Air),” Gurman explains.

Another iPad with a bigger display – between 14 and 15 inches – might be released in the next coming year or two. Gurman says Stage Manager might make more sense on a device that is that size.

New MacBooks

“The new M2 chip, part of the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro announced at WWDC and optimized with macOS Ventura, is also the core of several other products in the pipeline,” Gurman says.

He adds that the M2 Macs might come in quicker succession than the M1 Macs did.

Here are the M2 Macs that are expected to launch soon:

an M2 Mac mini.

an M2 Pro Mac mini.

M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

the M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme Mac Pro.
